Blackspot Removal Programme
A Blackspot is a section of road (up to 500 m length or a junction), witnessing repetitive road accidents over a period of two to three years. As a first step, rectification measures should be taken on stretches, which witness five or more accidents or three or more fatalities.
IRF IC, in line with the recommendations emerging out of one of its Conferences organized in October 2015 in India, has identified black spots across the country that need eradification in a time bound manner as a major priority, for remedial action through engineering/related interventions.
Accordingly, IRF IC has conducted a pilot study of black spots, identified by the local Public Works Department and Traffic Police, in the State of Delhi and city of Nagpur (Maharashtra State. The necessary interventions have been planned and are awaiting roll out, in concurrence with the respective State Governments.
